Deployable Emergency Shelter

This was a quick 2 hour design challenge with myself. To barely meet the deadline for submittal to IDEA.

With all this pandemic talk, we approached a proposed design of a 100 sq ft deployable shelter. The Shelter is steel and fabric membrane. It features 2 tensile net beds as the main sleeping quarters, leaving the floor space open for living. Also features a hybrid rain water catchment system that encapsulates the micro wood stove down the central area of the quarantine hut. These could be manufactured relatively inexpensive and could help keep people sheltered in place during global pandemics.

In June & July of 2019 Nittihaus jumped right in with the design team at Guildworks in Portland, Oregon. To finish the manufacturing drawings for the bottom layer of panels. We also made sure all the details in the autoCAD files would match what was being manufactured at the cutting plotter as well as corner details of the membrane. Nittihaus also spent hours making sure the master install map was correct for each unique corresponding cable edge, membrane corner plate, and membrane panels layout / arrangements.. This shade array is installed onto an existing 140 foot cable net structure built during the 1974 worlds fair in Spokane, Washington,

Southern Oregon Univeristy - Outdoor Learning Classroom Shade

This was collaboration between Chris Brown of Arkitek in Ashland, Oregon and Emerald Kingdom Greenhouse.  We designed, manufactured and installed a PTFE cladding on the structures large triangles in the back and we also manufactured and installed the HDPE shade sail cloth designs.  Stainless steel cables, turnbuckles and bow shackles by polyfab.

This was an awesome opportunity for all parties, Emerald Kingdom Greenhouse x Nittihaus x Giltzern Grime x Vision Hound x Substructurez ... This project was another trans continental design and build collaboration.. Vision Hound and Giltzern Grime from Melbourne Australia approached us to collaborate in the fabrication of their stage design for the moon stage at Oregon Eclipse Gathering.  We Gladly jumped right in below are some process shots and finals. We also helped bend and fabricate the day bed frames which where inspired by the Sydney opera house.

Alice In Wonderland Themed Greenhouse @ Oregon Eclipse Gathering

This Greenhouse was designed and manufactured by Emerald Kingdom Greenhouse. It was another one of several structures that EKG designed, made, built and help curate the content for the village area at Oregon Eclipse Gathering by Symbiosis. Permaculture classes and workshops where taking place in all of the EKG structures.
